This reproduction of a classic book is absolutely terrible and not worth purchase. I read the warning that the text may contain errors and thought that was acceptable but there are dozens of errors on every single page of this piece of garbage. The formatting of the text is horrific and quite possibly the worst formatted book in history. The text is aligned in three vertical columns per page, each column about 2 inches wide containing 5-7 words per column with the next text printed vertically. Not really sure how to explain it but what I mean is you read the top line of column 1 then the next line of column 1 moving downward then move over to to columns 2 and 3. Page numbers, citations, quotations, etc are just randomly jumbled together in the middle of the text in no order whatsoever. Here is a sample sentence directly from the book to illustrate what i'm talking about:"Palddan-mullkk, Adam Homo, ii, 408. MOVEMENT OF HUMID AIR. 183 source from which receives it."
Does that make sense to anybody??? Looking in the original book it is clear that jumbled mess has combined a quotation that was set away from the text, page numbers, chapter title, and sentence ending from the previous page but in this edition there is no way to put any logic to what is being read.
With this purchase you are given a link to the publishers website to be able to view a scanned copy of the original book that they used to create this horrible reproduction but all it does is download from Google Books where the exact same PDF file is already publicly available for free without wasting money here. The original scanned in book is excellent and if they had just printed that out and put it in binding without completely reformatting it this would have been perfect.
This book is absolutely unreadable, I really tried but ended up putting it in the recycling bin. Save yourself the money and buy a different edition or download the PDF copy of the original online for free, this item is a waste of money.

Man and Nature George Perkins Marsh 9781230317151 Books Reviews
New condition, good book!
Innumerable typos and horrible formatting. Would not recommend at all. Returning.
Amazing work of an early American observer of the relation of man and his environment
The format makes it most difficult to read. Although forewarned about typos, the small print an double columns on each page make it a bear. It is a shame. I have seen this book in a normal format, and it is a classic.
If only American society had paid more attention to what Marsh was writing about in the 1800s, our attitudes about climate change (and deniability) may had been significantly different.
In 1864, George P. Marsh explained how civilizations create ecological disasters. His central thesis is that cutting down forests desrupts otherwise stable hydrological cycles, thereby causing erosion and degrading plant and animal habitats. The book is vaste, creative and detailed. An American from Vermont, Marsh also lived in Turkey and Italy, and pursued numerous careers, as diplomat, lawyer, businessman, and professor. His intense love of language and history merged with direct observations here and abroad to generate a remarkable breadth of knowlegde and a strong desire to communicate. In Man and Nature, Marsh is not only inspired, he is also happy to digress, particularly in the abundant footnotes.
Who else in the 1860s was saying that man was a devastating force against nature? Geo P Marsh observed the way the woods of his youth in Vermont had been desolated, laid waste, and felt the need to shout out against all those who insisted that nature was indomitable and endless. His book is documentation of all the ways that man had totally altered the topography of the planet from civilization's first appearance. He uses the vast knowledge that he had accumulated in years spent in Mediterrean countries to show how man had reduced his environment to meet his immediate needs. The overall point was that man is in a class by himself, not part of nature at all, but a ferocious agent of change. The tone of the book is documentary and objective rather than pleading or pitying. Readers may wish that Marsh had permitted himself some sermonizing but he just lets the facts speak.
Important note this particular edition is pretty bad. Many letters and words are only partially visible. It seems that the type was worn out so that many letters are only half printed.
